Bio:
Larry Russell, Assistant Professor, Department of Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Performance Studies (Ph.D., Southern Illinois University), teaches courses in performance studies, ritual, puppetry, and narrative. Dr. Russell's research interests focus upon ritual practices as cultural perfomances. His recent work concerns an ethnography of pilgrimage to a site of healing in New Mexico, and the performance of healing rituals in the aftermath of the terrorist bombings in New York. He's also the author and performer of "Peace Like a River," a collection of narratives which he performed at the Kleinau Theatre at Southern Illinois University. Before entering graduate studies, he worked in theatre, directing more than 20 plays on the West Coast.
