Bio:

Matt Sobnosky, Associate Professor, Department of Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Performance Studies (Ph.D., University of Nebraska), teaches courses in argumentation, rhetorical theory and criticism, and communication and social change. Matt's research program investigates the boundaries of publicity in contemporary society, looking at the ways in which social movement actors contest the norms and practices of public discourse. His current research project focuses on the rhetoric of AIDS activism and the public sphere. Some of this research has been published in book chapters and in an essay in Argumentation and Advocacy. Matt is also interested in cultural politics in contemporary America, and has written about "family values" as a political issue, and about the rhetoric of white supremacy. Matt also assists with coaching the Hofstra University Forensics Team.
