Bio:

Field of Study: Political Communication

Research Interests: Political participation, media, and the public sphere.

Previous Teaching Specialization: Assistant Professor, Stetson University 2002-2007.

Philip Dalton, Assistant Professor, Department of Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Performance Studies (Ph.D., University of Oklahoma), teaches courses in political communication, argumentation, intercultural communication, and mass media theory. His research focuses on public participation and public discourse. Among other publications, his first book, Swing Voting: Understanding Late-Deciders in Late-Modernity (Hampton Press, 2005), explored swing voters from a phenomenological standpoint. He is also the editor of the forthcoming Communication, Comparative Cultures, and Civilizations (Hampton Press), an interdisciplinary volume of essays examining, extending, and applying the cultural theories of Jean Gebser.
