Bio

Dr. Tina Mavrikos-Adamou, PhD, first began to teach as an adjunct professor of political science at Hofstra University in 2004.  Previously she taught in Greece at the American College of Thessaloniki, in Thessaloniki, Greece and has taught in the USA at Adelphi University, and Colgate University, NY.

Research Interests:
Democratization in Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkan Region, Post-Conflict Societies, Post-Communist Societies, Civil Society, Greek Politics, Immigration and Asylum, Multicultural Education, Pedagogy.

Teaching Interests:
International Politics, International Law, Global Peace Operations, Democracy Building in the 21st Century, Comparative Politics, Russia, Political Theory Migration and Immigration Studies.

Professor Mavrikos-Adamou has taught in both the Political Science Department at Hofstra and for the Honors College.

Professional Activities:
Professor Mavrikos-Adamou is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Institute for International Education, the Association for the Study of Nationalities, the Hellenic Political Science Association in Greece, and the International Studies Association where she is currently ISA CISS Executive Council Member & CISS Editor for the International Studies Compendium.

Publications:
Her numerous journal articles have appeared in journals such as Democratization, and Global Policy.

Two of her most recent publications include “Informal Relationships and Structures in Greece and their Effects on Civil Society Formation,” in Austerity and the 3rd Sector in Greece: Civil Society at the European Frontline, Ashgate, 2015, and “Leader Dominated Ethnic Parties and Dysfunctional Institutional Designs in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo,” in State Building and Democratization in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ashgate, 2015.
