Bio:
Shirlee Sloyer, Professor, Department of Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Performance Studies (Ed.D., New York University), teaches courses in communication theory, small group communication, argumentation and debate, and performance in context. Dr. Sloyer specializes in readers theater and group performance, and has published two textbooks: From the Page to the Stage: The Educator's Complete Guide to Readers Theatre (Greenwood Publishing Group, Inc., Westport, Connecticut) and Readers Theatre: Story Dramatization in the Classroom (National Council of Teachers of English, Urbana, Illinois). Other publications include articles on the relationship of readers theatre and reading motivation. She lectures at all school levels on readers theatre and communication theory in education.
Dr. Sloyer was Hofstra's debate and forensic coach, and originated the Hofstra University Readers Theatre, which performed throughout Long Island and New York City. She appeared with her readers on CBS and NBC television.
