Bio

Santiago Slabodsky joined Hofstra in the Fall of 2015. He holds the Florence and Robert Kaufman Chair in Jewish Studies in the department of Religion and is affiliated professor in the Latin American and Caribbean Studies program.  Previously, he served as director of the program of Religion, Ethics and Society and assistant professor of Global Ethics at the Claremont Consortium in California. In his research he explores intercultural encounters between Jewish and Global South social theories and political movements. His teaching areas include Jewish thought and culture, religion and politics, inter-religious conversations, Jewish-Muslim dialogue, postcolonial studies, critical theories of religion, and race and globalization. 

At the national level Dr. Slabodsky co-chairs the Liberation Theologies group and is founding member of the Class, Religion, and Theology unit at the American Academy of Religion. At the international level, he is co-director of the trilingual journal Decolonial Horizons/Horizontes Decoloniales housed at the GEMRIP institute in Latin America. Concurrently to his permanent posts in the US he has served as visiting professor in institutions in Spain, Macedonia, the Netherlands, EEUU/Canada, Costa Rica, and Argentina and lectured throughout Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East.
