Bio

Dr. Gordon earned a PhD in mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University. He received an MS in mathematics from Carnegie Institute of Technology and a BS in mathematics and physics from the City College of New York, where he was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Since 1973, Dr. Gordon has taught at Hofstra University both as a full-time associate professor and currently as Executive-In-Residence. He is also Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Studies and Director of Computer Science and Information Systems at Molloy College.

Dr. Gordon has simultaneously pursued careers as a college professor and as a business executive. Prior to his current academic position, he was Vice President of Decision Technology for Avis Budget Group, where he led the development and implementation of global, real-time information systems. Formerly, he was on the computer science research staff and research manager at IBM Watson Research Center, working on the research and development of user interfaces and decision support systems.

Dr. Gordon received the Hofstra MBA Association Award, Avis 100 Awards, two IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards, and the IBM General Products Division Citation.

Dr. Gordon's research includes topics on visual programming, revenue management systems, and simulation of queuing systems. His research work is on the application of decision support systems to solve business problems and the development of the pedagogy to teach these tools.

He has published numerous refereed articles in professional computer journals and a book chapter on computer and mathematical applications, and he has presented original work at national and international technical conferences, sponsored by the ACM, IEEE, Decision Sciences Institute, and INFORMS.
