Bio

Montgomery Hatch is a Percussionist with the New York City Opera and Professor of Percussion at Hofstra University. He has performed with numerous orchestras across the country including: the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Honolulu Symphony, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, and many others.

In addition to his duties with the NYC Opera, Montgomery continues to maintain a busy schedule in NYC. He performs with the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Ballet, as well as a wide variety of chamber and freelance groups. He has performed with popular artists including: Andrea Bocelli, Mary J. Blige, Rufus Wainwright, John Zorn, Amy Grant, Louis Bellson, Evelyn Glennie, Kristin Chenoweth, and Josh Groban. On Broadway, Montgomery has performed in the pit orchestras of Mary Poppins and West Side Story, as well as the Radio City Music Hall: A Christmas Spectacular, featuring the Rockettes.

Originally from California, Montgomery has recorded for films and CDs at Fox Studios, Skywalker Ranch, and the Music Center in downtown L.A. As an advocate for new music, he has been a member of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and performed with the Empyrean Ensemble, Berkeley Contemporary Chamber Players, and Santa Cruz New Music Works. He has also performed at conventions for the Percussive Arts Society and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States

A dedicated educator, Montgomery founded the Long Island Percussion Workshop and is a regular clinician across the United States. His articles have been published in Percussive Notes, and his compositions are available through Tapspace Publications.
