Bio

Field of Study: Intra and Interpersonal communications and public address

Research Interests: Media Psychology: Terrorism and the political radicalization of the Internet Lars Hedstrom, Adjunct Associate Professor of Speech Communications, teaches the basic courses: Oral Communication, Interpersonal Communication and Public Speaking. Professor Hedstrom came to Hofstra in the fall of 1986 as a Lieutenant Colonel, after a 25 year career in the U.S. Army. Colonel Hedstrom served in the Army’s Special Forces and as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Public Affairs. He served as the Department of The Army Briefing Officer and special topics speech writer for the Department of the Army’s Chief of Staff. Professor Hedstrom is a Professor of Communications at Suffolk Community College and is an Adjunct Professor of Communications at Nassau Community College. He has earned the Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence granted by the State University of New York. He has lectured at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ohio State University, Adelphi University and The University of South Carolina. Hedstrom is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Merchant Marine Captain. Upon retirement, he is preparing to circumnavigate the earth -alone- in his 40’ sailboat.
