THE CYPRES FAMILY DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORSHIP IN LEGAL STUDIES IN BUSINESS

Professor Martin graduated from Barnard College with an A.B. in psychology. She received a J.D. with honors from the Hofstra University School of Law where she was Research Editor of the Hofstra Law Review. She is admitted to practice law in New York State, the District of Columbia, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Professor Martin has had articles published in law reviews and refereed journals on patronage employment practices, securities regulation, direct shipment of wine, the siting of cellular telephone towers and windmills, litigation financing, and the life settlement industry. Her more recent articles have been published in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Business Law, the San Diego Law Review, the Fordham Environmental Law Journal, the Villanova Law Review, the University of Florida Journal of Law and Public Policy, and the Real Estate Law Journal. Her work has been cited by the United States Supreme Court, federal circuit courts of appeals and other courts. She has presented award-winning papers at conferences of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business, and the North East Academy of Legal Studies in Business. She has been a panel moderator at the American Bar Association's National Convention and an invited speaker at the James F. Humphreys Complex Litigation Center at the George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC and at Georgia State University's Risk Management and Insurance Seminar Series.  She was editor-in-chief of the American Business Law Journal and a member of the executive committee of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. Professor Martin is currently researching and writing about the liability of compliance officers.

At Hofstra, Professor Martin was the Director of the Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence and Chair of the Hofstra University Senate Planning and Budget Committee.   Her professional affiliations include the Nassau County, District of Columbia and American Bar Associations. In the community, she has served as Chairperson of the Nassau County Council of the American Association of University Women and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra. She is a member of the Speakers Bureau of the Nassau County Bar Association.
