Description: This course examines the common law and statutory responses to contemporary environmental issues. These responses are considered on local, state and national levels. Federal statutes that are emphasized include the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (Superfund). Legal intervention in areas such as resource management and allocation are considered, as well as emerging legal, political and economic issues surrounding land ownership and use.
