Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … The Bronx Opera Company will perform Puccini’s La bohème at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse at Hofstra University. The fully-staged production, presented by the Hofstra Cultural Center, will be performed in English with a 30-piece orchestra. Show times are 8 p.m. on Friday, May 17, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.
Since its 1896 premiere, La bohème has become one of the most celebrated operas in the repertoire, and deservedly so. Giacomo Puccini’s operatic depiction of student life in Paris’ Latin Quarter in the 1830s has something for everyone: magnificent music featuring gorgeous melodies and striking harmonies, beloved arias and ensembles, a tragic love story, powerful relationships and even moments of comedy. Today's audiences may know that Rent, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical by Jonathan Larson, was greatly inspired by La bohème .
Tickets are $30 and $25 for senior citizens. Students under 18 with ID receive one free ticket. Members of the Hofstra’s faculty and staff may purchase up to two tickets for $20 each upon presentation of a current HofstraCard. Hofstra students receive one free ticket upon presentation of a current HofstraCard.
For tickets and more information call the Hofstra Box Office at (516) 463-6644.
