This conference is geared toward coaches and athletes interested in learning about the mental aspects of sports and its applications to increase sport performance, motivation and enjoyment. It will provide coaches with an opportunity to learn how to improve the mental game of their athletes and gain valuable information on how to use the mind to increase performance success.

Thursday, January 31, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.: Team Leadership Conference
This conference gives Nassau County student team leaders the chance to meet other high school students and share ideas about the meaning and significance of leadership. The day will include keynote addresses, focused dialogue between student leaders, coaches, athletic directors and principals, and training on communication skills. Participants will be asked to plan and initiate at least one activity designed to have a positive impact on their school community.

Wednesday, February 6, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.: Math Olympiad
This conference is designed for all professionals concerned with math education in grades 4 through 8. The Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) focuses on problem solving and critical thinking.

Fee: $100 or $90 per person for teams of three or more (advance registration is required)
Tuesday, February 12, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.: Teaming Conference
This conference will benefit newly formed teacher teams and established teams that want to improve their functioning. It is designed for middle school teams, although high school teams have profited from the conference in the past. Schools are invited to send entire teams of teachers, team leaders and administrators to learn how to “take their teams to the next level.”

Wednesday, February 13, 4-7 p.m.; Thursday, March 13, 4-7 p.m.; and Thursday, April 3, 4-7 p.m.: Leadership Series co-sponsored by The Center for Secondary School Administrators and Supervisors and the Nassau County High School Principals’ Association
The Leadership Series provides a forum for high school principals, aspiring administrators, and college professors to meet and discuss issues of school leadership. Each session provides insights and applications related to current issues within school constituencies. Individuals participating in all three seminars will receive a Leadership Series Certificate of Completion from Hofstra University and the Nassau County High School Principals’ Association.

Saturday, March 8, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.: Sixth Annual Conference of HNET,
The Hofstra Network of Elementary Teachers
The sixth annual Hofstra Network of Elementary Teachers conference is open to all prospective and current elementary educators and administrators. Workshops explore elementary and early childhood literacy, mathematics, science and social studies, as well as job search tips for new teachers.

This conference is designed for present and future administrators, subject area supervisors, guidance counselors, school secretaries, central office personnel, Board of Education members or anyone connected to building the master schedule.

School and Community Collaborations: Learning in the Early Years (Birth Through 5 Years)
Social, emotional and cognitive development begins before birth and continues through later adult life. Studies indicate that individuals and society as a whole benefit from high-quality early childhood and parenting programs. These programs can narrow the gaps that exist between children from families with education and advantage, and those without. The goal of this conference is to promote a holistic paradigm for how we view, provide and create an environment for early learning.

Tuesday, March 18, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.: Long Island Leadership Conference
This conference gives Long Island student leaders a special opportunity to participate in small group workshops, listen to distinguished motivational speakers, and actively engage in conversations that allow them to connect and exchange ideas. There is also an adviser workshop for student council and student government advisers who wish to take their student group to the
next level.

How to Organize the Elementary School for the Coming School Year
A chronological sequence of administrative tasks is essential to properly, smoothly and successfully move through one school year and prepare for the next year. This practical workshop will detail such tasks and discuss how to communicate with faculty, staff and parents about their roles and responsibilities in the processes.

Know Me, Know My Name, A Youth Leadership Institute: Students Helping Students
Students in 9th and 10th grades will have an opportunity to discuss issues facing young people, issues not usually covered in the classroom, but inextricably linked to academic success. The conference is designed to provide a forum for student voices to be heard and for action plans to be developed that will promote access and equity for all students.

Tuesday, April 15, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.: Creative Arts Therapy Conference
This year’s conference theme is “Specialization in Creative Arts Therapy.” The keynote speaker begins the day talking about experiences using art therapy with people who have eating disorders. Workshops follow and include art therapy and humor, body/mind, dialectical behavioral therapy, sandtray and play therapy, grief and loss, and special art techniques developed for the clinical setting. The conference is suited for those in the mental health profession.

Thursday, May 1, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Secondary New Teachers Network
The Secondary New Teachers Network is designed to support secondary school teachers in their first few years in the classroom. The association holds conferences where new and experienced teacher practitioners and Hofstra professors can come together to share teaching methods and materials, develop curricula and discuss relevant issues.

Tuesday, May 20, 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m.:
10th Annual Senior Year Network Conference – Sharing Student Work
Co-sponsored by The Center for Secondary School Administrators and Supervisors and the Nassau County High School Principals’ Association and Nassau Boces Department of Career and Technical Education. This conference, featuring high school seniors, is for high school administrators, teachers, parents and students. Students present their internships, research papers, service learning and creative projects. A Senior Project Exhibition/Fair will take place after the presentations.
