"Sneaker Art!" Featured in Student-Run Gallery, Calkins Hall
Highlighting the Work of Hofstra Freshman Alexander Murray, January 27 to February 10, 2008
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … Sneaker Art!, an exhibition of wearable art by Hofstra University freshman Alexander Murray, will be on display at a new student-run gallery, sponsored by Hofstra’s Department of Fine Arts and Art History, located on the South Campus in Calkins Hall. FORM, the name of the student group that runs the gallery, chooses the exhibitions and hosts the opening receptions.Sneaker Art!, featuring a selection of custom sneakers, heels, hats and shirts, will be on display from January 27 to February 10, 2008.
Alexander painted his first pair of sneakers a little less than two years ago. "Since then I have painted and sold more than 20 pairs of shoes. This show is somewhat of a sampler of my current interests in sneaker art and clothing graphics. I would like to continue painting sneakers in the future, but I am also very interested in getting further into screen-printing on tee shirts, hats, etc. I love art because my only limitation is my own creativity, and I continue to learn and improve with every sketch."
There will be an opening reception for Alexander's exhibition on Thursday, January 31, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
For more information on upcoming shows in Hofstra's student run gallery call the Department of Fine Arts at (516) 463-5474.
