January 30 to February 1: Hofstra Opera Theater presents L’Incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi.
Isabel Milenski, artistic director, David Ramael, musical director. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. March 7 and 14 at 2 p.m.: “Such Stuff as Dreams Are Made On,” the Annual Shakespeare Festival Musicale performed by the Hofstra Collegium Musicum. William E. Hettrick, director. Featuring Christopher Morrongiello, lutenist, and Michael Franzone, tenor. Location is the John Cranford Adams Playhouse. These performances will be accompanied by Something Wicked … A One-Hour Version of Macbeth by Maureen Connolly McFeely. March 15 at 3 p.m.: Hofstra String Quartet performs “Mendelssohn and Vaughn Williams: The Musical World of Charles Darwin.” The Hofstra String Quartet performs works by Felix Mendelssohn and Ralph Vaughn Williams. Location: Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 senior citizen (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra student with ID. One free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale beginning February 24. Presented in conjunction with the Hofstra Cultural Center conference Darwin’s Reach: Celebrating Darwin’s Legacy Across Academic Disciplines.

April 4 at 8 p.m.: The American Chamber Ensemble (ACE) Spring Concert. Naomi Drucker and Blanche Abram, co-directors. Performers include Blanche Abram and Marilyn Lehman, piano; Naomi Drucker, clarinet; and Eriko Sato, violin. Chris Finckel, cello, will be joined by Denise Lozano, flute, and Lynn Cohen, oboe. Featured will be the buoyant “Poulenc Sextet” for flute, oboe, clarinet , bassoon, French horn and piano; the beautiful Quintet Op. 42 by Zdenek Fibich for violin,  clarinet, piano, French horn and cello; and Elie Siegmeister’s “4 Minutes for 4 Players” involving flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon. April 19 at 7 p.m.: Hofstra Jazz Ensemble. David Lalama, director. An evening of traditional and contemporary Jazz compositions and arrangements for Big Band and Nonet. Location is Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. April 24 at 8 p.m.: Hofstra Chorale and Chamber Singers. David Fryling, director. An eclectic collection of works, both new and old, for a cappella and accompanied choir. Location is Cathedral of the Incarnation,

May 9 at 8 p.m.: Hofstra Symphony Orchestra celebrates Elie Siegmeister. David Ramael, director. Also featured on the program is this year’s winner of the Hofstra Concerto Competition. , Michael Spierman, artistic director. Fully staged production sung in English, with a 30-piece orchestra. Location is the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. Tickets are $30, $25 senior citizen (over 65), $10 student (Hofstra and non-Hofstra) with current ID. $20 Hofstra faculty/staff (two-ticket maximum; must pick up tickets and present HofstraCard at the Box Office). February 15 at 2 p.m.: Great Dames – Songs about and made famous by the great ladies of the stage, screen and beyond ... starring Christine Pedi with Mathew Ward, piano. Well known in New York for her long association with Forbidden Broadway, Christine Pedi earned a Drama Desk nomination and an LA Ovation Award and has appeared in companies all over the world, including Los Angeles, Tokyo, Singapore, Australia and London's West End. She made her Broadway debut in the revival of Little Me directed by Rob Marshall. Her work in New York cabarets earned her Show Business Weekly’s 2005 Best Female Cabaret Singer of the Year Award, a MAC Award (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) for her turn as Liza Minnelli in Judy & Liza Live, and several nominations for her various one-woman shows.  Location is Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus

March 29 at 2 p.m.: Elie Siegmeister at 100 – Performances by Hofstra faculty, staff and guest artists with special guest. Leonard J. Lehrman, co-founder of the Elie Siegmeister Society American composer, educator and author Elie Siegmeister (1909-1991) demonstrated his concern for the development of an authentic American musical vocabulary throughout his unique career.  Jazz, blues and folk melodies and rhythms are frequent themes in his many song cycles, nine operas, eight symphonies, and his various choral, chamber and solo works.  His 37 orchestral works have been performed by leading orchestras throughout the world.  He also composed for Hollywood and Broadway. Elie Siegmeister joined the Hofstra faculty in 1949 and remained an active member of the Department of Music for 27 years.This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program, administered by the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport.Location: Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus

April 5 at 2 p.m.: “Too Marvelous for Words” – Johnny Mercer at 100! All Star Big Band with Special Guest Vocalists. Location is John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus.

May 9 at 8 p.m.: “Come On-a My House” – The Songs of Rosemary Clooney, conceived and performed by Amy Dolan Fletcher, directed by Bob Spiotto and Amy Dolan Fletcher. Enjoy an evening of your favorite Rosemary Clooney songs from “Tenderly” to “Come On-a My House” performed by Broadway veteran Amy Dolan Fletcher and her swingin' quartet.
