Uniondale High School Students will Shadow Hofstra Faculty and Administrators

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY - Uniondale High School students will spend the day on February 2, 2007 shadowing Hofstra faculty as part of a national effort to expose students to on-the-job experiences.

Uniondale High School students, for the second year, will be shadowing a number of Hofstra faculty members and administrators in subject areas such as Engineering, Drama, Dance, Art, Video Graphics and Production, and Computer Graphics.

"We are extremely fortunate to partner with Hofstra University in our attempt to acquaint our students with the world of work, to help them realize their strengths and interests, and to link what they are learning in the classroom to their future academia and career success," said Cathy Khalifa, Business Teacher and Work-based Learning Coordinator for Uniondale High School.

Job Shadow Day is a national event that was first launched in 1998 by General Colin Powell and America's Promise - The Alliance for Youth, Junior Achievement, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor as a way to give young people an up-close look at the world of work.

Job Shadow Day is part of a yearlong national effort to enhance the lives of students by introducing them to the world of work through "career mentors" and school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. Job Shadowing allows students the opportunity to go into the work place and shadow volunteers who discuss their careers and what skills and knowledge is necessary to do them.
