Hofstra Film Students Premiere Film On Independent Film Channel

"Alma De Mi Padre" Produced By Ghetto Film Schools

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra School of Communication film students Liliana Candelario, Luis Servera and James Calinda produced "Alma De Mi Padre" which will premiere on the Independent Film Channel Saturday, February 8, 2008 at 5 p.m. EST.

Liliana, Luis and James are all graduate of the summer program held at the Ghetto Film School, an organization that connects talented young people to artistic, educational and career opportunities in the world of film and video. More than 400 students have participated in the school’s programs and workshops, coming from all areas of New York City to the South Bronx training facilities for hands-on production and cinema studies courses.

"Alma De Mi Padre" was produced on location in Mexico City over the course of six days. The project is the culmination of a 15-month Fellows Program, which provides students with the education necessary to make high-quality narrative film projects. The film follows a man in search of a magical medallion that keeps his heart from being broken.

“We’re so proud of the students who’ve come to us from Ghetto Film School.  They’ve worked with us as mentors on our Documenting Diversity summer film program and having their work aired on the Independent Film Channel is a testament to their talent and creativity,” said Dean Sybil DelGaudio.  “We look forward to a continuing relationship with the Ghetto Film School.”
