Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – New York Times sports columnist George Vecsey will return to campus in March as part of the university's 75th anniversary celebration to speak to students about his storied career as a New York Times sports columnist and best-selling author.Vecsey, a 1960 graduate of Hofstra University, has been a sports columnist at the New York Times for nearly 30 years and has written over a dozen books, including five best-sellers. He has covered the World Cup and Olympic Games, and is one of the premier baseball writers in the country.
His journalism career began at Newsday, where he was a sports writer for eight years. He joined the New York Times in 1968, and worked as a national correspondent and a religion writer before he began writing his sports column in 1982.
