Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … Hofstra University’s Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center is presenting a free Community Services Day on Saturday, March 26, 2011, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Highlights of the day include free speech and hearing screenings, a concert for children, demonstrations of treatments that utilize virtual reality technology, and parent and family presentations.

The Saltzman Community Services Center  at Hofstra University houses the nationally-accredited Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute and four clinics:

•    Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic
•    Psychological Evaluation, Research and Counseling (PERC) Clinic
•    Reading/Writing Learning Clinic
•    Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic

These clinics serve people of every age, with a variety of needs, for a low cost fee.

The schedule for Community Services Day is as follows:

9 a.m.        
Continental Breakfast – meet with the executive director and clinic directors

10 a.m.       
Families in Transition Divorce Workshop
Demonstration of Virtual Reality Technology to Treat Phobias
Matt the Music Man Concert for children

11 a.m.       
Parent Literacy Workshop
Mindful Parenting Workshop
Autism Spectrum Disorders Workshop
Film screening: The Squid and the Whale (for mature audiences only) – a movie about divorce and its impact on a family.

Noon       
Lunch

1 p.m.       
Speech-Language Development Workshop
Lifelong Healthy Hearing
Parenting Workshop

2 p.m.       
Parent Literacy Workshop for the Bilingual Learner (in Spanish)
Anger Management
Managing Difficult Behaviors (for parents of children, ages 2-7)

3 p.m.       
Poetry Reading by the Young Women’s Writing Program

The speech and hearing screenings will take place throughout the day.
