Transfer to Hofstra – A Move in the Right Direction

Learn How Your Credits Go Further at Hofstra – Attend Transfer Open House

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra University Office of Undergraduate Admission is hosting a Transfer Open House on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Check-in at the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus. Please register online at hofstra.edu/transferevent or call 1-800-HOFSTRA.

At the Transfer Open House students will meet representatives from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business; Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; Hofstra University Honors College; School of Communication; School of Engineering and Applied Science and School of Education, Health and Human Services.

Transfer students are encouraged to take this opportunity to ask students, faculty and administrators what it is like to be a member of this active community. Residence hall tours will also be available. Students interested in transferring to Hofstra are encouraged to attend and learn about the transfer process, speak with current transfer students and attend presentations on academic and student affairs. Please bring copies of all transcripts from previously attended colleges and universities.

“Your credits now go further at Hofstra,” says Dr. Herman Berliner, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We have maximized the transferability of credits to meet Hofstra degree requirements. More than ever before, we are making the transfer experience as seamless as possible.”

After finishing a year or two at another institution, transfer students are eager to focus on a major. To make this transition easier, we give new transfer students greater flexibility in fulfilling their general education requirements – Hofstra’s “Distribution” – with coursework from their prior institution. For example, any three or more credit transfer science class will fulfill the “Natural Science” distribution category, and any three or more credit transfer psychology class will fulfill the “Behavior Social Science” distribution category. It is possible for transfer student bringing in one or more years of transfer credit to fulfill most or all general education distribution requirements before starting their first semester at Hofstra.

Admission Office Hours
The Office of Undergraduate Admission is open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
