HOFSTRA'S DAY OF DIALOGUE IV ADDRESSES AMERICA'S PLACE IN THE WORLD, PRESENT AND FUTURE
Salman Rushdie lecture, student workshops on war in Iraq, global warming, worker’s rights, gay marriage, immigration
  Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University's fourth Day of Dialogue, a day devoted to a campus-wide discussion of the issues that face our world, features student workshops on everything from sweatshops to global warming, gay marriage to birth control, citizen activism to the war in Iraq.
Day of Dialogue IV: USA and the World: Where Do We Go from Here? sponsored by Hofstra's Center for Civic Engagement, takes place Wednesday, March 21, 2007 and is intended to interest students in and inform them about public issues in order to help them become involved citizens and active participants in the democratic process.
Two of the day's events are open to the public as well:
Iraq- Hard Times and Hard Choices. Where Do We Go From Here?
This is a special community forum marking the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq that will feature a wide range of experts, scholars and citizens. The forum, to be broadcast live by WRHU Radio Hofstra, will take place from 7-10 p.m. in the Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, south campus.
The Energy Problem: Choices for an Uncertain Future
This multigenerational forum will take place from 2:20- 4:20 p.m. in the Business Development Center room 246, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, south campus. The forum will be moderated by Michael D'Innocenzo, The Harry H. Wachtel Distinguished Teaching Professor for the Study of Nonviolent Social Change at Hofstra. The public can attend this forum by calling 516-463-5606 in advance.
The rest of the days events are open to students and Hofstra community members, including author Salman Rushdie giving the Donald Sutherland Lecture on "The Novel & the 21st Century" in the Monroe Lecture Center Theater, south campus, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
