‘Straight A’ students honored at Scholars Reception
Provost’s office, bookstore and Student Government fete 240 top students
Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y. – Full-time undergraduate students who earned a 4.0 grade point average in the Fall 2010 semester will be celebrated at a reception on Mar. 25, 2011, hosted by Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Herman A. Berliner, the University Bookstore and the Student Government Association.
The Provost’s Scholars will each be presented with a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card in recognition of their academic achievement. Each student also will be sent a letter and certificate. The reception will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Dean’s Room at the Hofstra University Club, David S. Mack Hall, North Campus. A total of 240 students qualified as Provost’s Scholars, which means they completed at least 12 semester hours of credit with a 4.0 GPA.
This year’s reception marks the first time that the Provost’s Office has teamed up with other campus organizations to recognize the Provost’s Scholars. Dr. Berliner said he was especially gratified that the proposal to provide gift cards came from the Academic Affairs Committee of the Student Government Association.
“It is terrific when students advocate for the recognition of the academic accomplishments of their peers,” Berliner said.
The University recognizes high achieving undergraduates each semester, with the designation of Provost’s Scholar or Dean’s List, depending on the grades earned by the student.
