This discussion, called “The World Today”, will be held at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus, from 3 to 4:30 pm.  The event is free and open to the public, but registration is recommended. To register, go to hofstra.edu/debate.

The event is part of Hofstra’s “Debate 2012 – Pride, Politics and Policy” programming, a series of lectures, conferences, classes and other events designed to engage and inform the campus community about the election, politics and presidential history in the months before Hofstra hosts the second presidential debate on October 16.

Wolf Blitzer is the anchor of CNN's The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, which airs in a three-hour block every weekday and in an hour-long format on Saturday evenings.

During the 2008 election cycle, Blitzer moderated several of CNN's presidential primary debates and anchored primary convention and Election Night 2008 coverage. He also spearheaded the full-day coverage of President Barack Obama's inauguration. Blitzer  led CNN's Emmy-winning America Votes 2006 coverage and America Votes 2004. During the 2004 election cycle, Blitzer anchored events including the Iowa caucuses, the New Hampshire primary, the Democratic and Republican national conventions, election night from NASDAQ in Times Square and President George W. Bush’s second inauguration. For Election 2000 coverage, Blitzer interviewed all of the major party presidential candidates, anchored Late Edition from the road, and hosted many of CNN's special events.

In addition to politics, Blitzer is also known for his in-depth reporting on international news. He reported
from Israel in the midst of the war between that country and Hezbollah during the summer of 2006. In 2005,
he was the only American news anchor to cover the Dubai Ports World story on the ground in the United
Arab Emirates. He also traveled to the Middle East that year to report on the second anniversary of the war
in Iraq. In 2003, Blitzer reported on the Iraq war from the Persian Gulf region.

Upcoming Debate 2012 events at Hofstra include:

•    Steven Schmidt, who ran John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, and the authors of the Game Change, the best-seller about the 2008 race that was turned into an HBO movie will give a behind-the-scenes look at the movie and book on March 29, 2012 at 12:30 p.m.
•    Julian Bond, former NAACP Chairman of the Board and professor of history at the University of Virginia, will present a talk at Hofstra University titled “From Alabama to Obama: A Critical View of the Civil Rights Movement.” This will take place on Thursday, March 29, 2012, 7 p.m., at the Guthart Cultural Center Theater, first floor, Axinn Library, South Campus.
•    On April 19, 2012, a symposium sponsored by the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency, comparing the administrations of George W. Bush and Barack Obama will be held that will feature senior presidential fellows Howard B. Dean III and Edward J. Rollins.
