Hofstra Library Offers Seniors $1,000 Award for Best Researched Paper
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra University Library is offering an award for the best researched academic paper by a senior scheduled to graduate in May 2009. The Undergraduate Library Research Award includes a $1,000 prize and a $200 Barnes & Noble Gift Certificate.
The candidate must have written the paper using library resources while he or she was an undergraduate. A faculty member must support the paper as being outstanding.
The deadline for all submissions is 5 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009. The research paper must be submitted - either by the student or the faculty member - to the office of the Dean of the Library and Information Services, 9th floor, Joan & Donald E. Axinn Library. All submissions must be accompanied by a URLA submission form signed by the supporting faculty member. Forms are available at the Reference Desk in the Axinn Library and online via the Axinn Library homepage (http://www.hofstra.edu/Libraries/lib_ulra.cfm). Only one entry per student is permitted.
All papers must be based on library research; must be a minimum of five pages in length and include a bibliography composed using a standard academic citation format such as APA, MLA, etc.; and must have been written for an undergraduate course taken during the academic year of 2008/2009 (January, 2008; Spring, 2008; Summer, 2008; Fall, 2008; January, 2009; Spring, 2009).
Hofstra University is a dynamic private institution where students can choose from more than 145 undergraduate and more than 160 graduate programs in liberal arts and sciences, business; engineering; communication; education, health and human services; and honors studies, as well as a School of Law. With a student-faculty ratio of 14-to-1, our professors teach small classes averaging 22 students that emphasize interaction, critical thinking and analysis.
