Hofstra Dance Performs Spring Concert

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … Hofstra University’s Dance Program will present its annual Spring Dance Concert, featuring works by guest artists Doug Varone and Jody Sperling. Performance times are 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27; 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 28; and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, at Hofstra’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. Tickets are $12 and $10 senior citizen (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra student with ID.

Mr. Varone is one of the most exciting and influential modern dance choreographers of our time. His work explores the full range of human emotions through movement that can change from calm and lyrical to wild and turbulent in the blink of an eye.

Ms. Sperling’s choreography is inspired by the early 20th century dancer and innovator, Loie Fuller, a pioneering American choreographer who used flowing white silk and the new medium of electrical stage lighting to create magical environments for dance.

Rounding out the program will be works by faculty members Robin Becker, Stormy Brandenberger, Anita Feldman and Jason Melms.

Additionally, Hofstra senior dance major Katherine Mayo, who has been selected to perform her original choreography, “Augusta Moves,” at the gala performance of the prestigious National College Dance Festival, taking place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in May, will also present her work at the Spring Dance Concert.
