Obama’s Options: The Opportunities and Limits Facing the New President

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – The New York Times Chief Washington Correspondent David E. Sanger will discuss “Obama’s Options: The Opportunities and Limits Facing the New President” at Hofstra University on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 2:20 p.m. in Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. 

The lecture is part of Define '09: New Challenges, New Solutions, a year-long series of programs designed to examine the new presidential administration, its policies and initiatives, the challenges we currently face and ways of addressing our country's most pressing issues.

As Chief Washington Correspondent for The Times,  Mr. Sanger has covered the arc of the Bush presidency and will now go on to cover the Obama presidency. In this role, Mr. Sanger specializes in a wide variety of issues, from American foreign policy to globalization, nuclear proliferation to Asian affairs, and the politics of national security. In a 26-year career at The Times, Mr. Sanger has reported from New York, Tokyo and Washington, as a correspondent, bureau chief and one of the paper’s senior writers. Twice he has been a member of reporting teams at The Times that won the Pulitzer Prize.

In 2007, Mr. Sanger, along with Bill Broad, collaborated with producer Julian Sher on the documentary “NUCLEAR JIHAD: Can Terrorists Get The Bomb?” which won an Alfred I. dupont-Columbia University Silver Baton, considered the Pulitzer Prize of broadcasting. In 2004, he was the co-recipient of the Edward Weintal Prize for diplomatic reporting for his coverage of the Iraq and Korean crises. He also won the Aldo Beckman Memorial Award for coverage of the presidency, given by the White House Correspondents’ Association.
