Mary Matalin and James Carville to Speak at Hofstra

Couple to Discuss "All’s Fair: Love, War and Politics"

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY –Presidential Adviser Mary Matalin and Media Personality James Carville will speak at Hofstra University on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 3 p.m. in the John Cranford Adams Playhouse , South Campus. The lecture is sponsored by The President’s Educate ’08 Event Series.

Mary Matalin formerly served as assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney, and was the first White House official to hold that double title. Before joining the White House, Matalin hosted CNN’s critically acclaimed debate show, Crossfire. She has made frequent television appearances as a political commentator, and has written for various periodicals including Newsweek and The Los Angeles Times. Matalin co-authored the best-selling political campaign book All’s Fair: Love, War and Running for President with her husband, James Carville. She now runs Threshold, a new conservative publishing imprint at Simon & Schuster. She also serves as vice president of the Washington Humane Society and is a board member of the Cheney Cardiovascular Institute. In addition she sits on the Editorial Board of Campaigns and Elections Magazine.

James Carville is America’s best-known political consultant. His long list of electoral successes evidences a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to unexpected landslide victories and for re-making political underdogs into upset winners. In 1992 he guided William Jefferson Clinton to the Presidency and in 1993 was honored as Campaign Manager of the Year by the American Association of Political Consultants for his leadership of Clintons’ fearsome and intense “War Room” at campaign headquarters in Little Rock. After Clinton’s victory, Carville began to focus on foreign consulting and led Ehud Barak to victory in his campaign to become Prime Minister of Israel. Carville is also an author, actor, producer, talk-show host, speaker and restaurateur. He can be seen regularly on television as a CNN commentator and contributor.
