Albert Tepper

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY: Hofstra University’s Music Department, the Long Island Composers Alliance and The American Chamber Ensemble will present a very special Concert in Memory of Albert Tepper on Friday, June 3 - 8 PM at the Helene Fortunoff Theater of the Monroe Lecture Center, California Avenue on the campus of Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

A selection of Mr. Tepper’s songs, duos, theater and chamber music will be offered, along with spoken tributes by his friends and colleagues.

Performers will be ACE Directors Naomi Drucker and Blanche Abram with pianists Marilyn Lehman and Nancy Deutsch, violinist Deborah Wong, violist Lois Martin, flutists Denise Lozano and Patricia Spencer and soprano Tammy Hensrud.

Albert Tepper (1921-2010) was a professor of Music at Hofstra University from 1952-1987. His work at Hofstra ranged from Band Director to Orchestra director and from teacher of Music Theory and Composition to founding teacher of Jazz History. He was, for many years the composer of music for the annual Shakespeare festivals and Director of numerous Musical Theater productions. He also served as Department Chairman for seven years.

Mr. Tepper was one of the five founding composers in the Long Island Composers Alliance with two of his works played on their inaugural concert in 1972. He has been performed often by the American Chamber Ensemble and they have recorded his works in a 4Tay CD first released in 1999.
