Hofstra Entertainment Presents "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me," A Broadway Musical Tribute to Billy Joel
Starring Broadway's "Piano Man" Wade Preston and the Original Movin' Out Band
June 12 to 14, 2009, at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … For the first show of the summer season, Hofstra University’s Hofstra Entertainment presents “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” A Broadway Musical Tribute to Billy Joel at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, June 12, 13 and 14, 2009. Show times are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
This production stars Wade Preston and Broadway’s original Movin’ Out Band. Preston played the role of the Piano Man in the Billy Joel / Twyla Tharpe Broadway hit Movin’ Out from its premiere in May 2002 until it closed in December 2005, and he guest performed on both national tours.
This show brings together not only songs from the hit Broadway show Movin’ Out, but also the genius of the Billy Joel himself, as well as his influences. There is a huge catalogue of material to choose from, including many songs that were not included in the Tony Award-winning show. The incredible 10-piece band, which includes members of Billy Joel’s touring band, will perform the full versions of the pieces, not just the abridged Movin’ Out versions. Audience members will delight in the stories of events that took place during the making of Movin’ Out, as well as details about the songs that are not readily known.
The Grammy Award-nominated and Tony Award-winning Movin’ Out Band features native Long Islanders Greg Smith, Chuck Burgi, Carl Fischer, John Scarpulla, Cliff Lyons, Dennis DelGaudio (a Hofstra graduate), Kevin Osborne, Scott Kreitzer, Carmine Giglio and Chris Jusino. The band was called the most dangerous band on Broadway because of its sheer power and talent. For more information on Wade Preston and the Movin’ Out band visit www.wadepreston.com.
Tickets for “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” A Broadway Musical Tribute to Billy Joel are $30 adult/$25 senior citizen (over 65), $15 matriculated non-Hofstra student with ID and $10 for members of the Hofstra community upon presentation of a current HofstraCard (two-ticket maximum). For tickets and more information call the Hofstra Box Office at (516) 463-6644, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., or visit www.hofstra.edu/HofstraEntertainment.
