Hofstra University Poet-in-Residence Phillis Levin Announces Forthcoming Readings and Presentations, Summer and Fall 2009

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … In the months ahead, Hofstra University Professor of English and Poet-in-Residence Phillis Levin will present a number of readings and participate in several panel discussions and literary workshops.

June 22 to 26: She will be the Poet-in-Residence at the Manhattanville Summer Writers’ Week, a five-day intensive poetry workshop and conference
(mville.edu/AcademicsandResearch/DowdOGormanWritingCenter/SummerWritersWeek/Default.aspx).

June 23: She will give a reading at Manhattanville College, Purchase, New York.   

July 4: She will give a reading at the Ledbury Poetry Festival, Ledbury, Herefordshire, England  (http://www.poetry-festival.com/ ).

July 9: She will give a Poetry Studio reading at London’s renowned Poetry Society.

September 24: She will give a reading at the launch of The Best American Poetry 2009, The New School, New York, NY 

October 10: She will serve as a panelist on "The Once and Future Sonnet" at the Annual Convention of the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics in Denver, CO ( http://www.bu.edu/literary/ ).

October 29: She will give a reading at Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tennessee.

October 28: She will give a reading at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee.

Phillis Levin is the author of four books of poetry: Temples and Fields, The Afterimage, Mercury and May Day, and is the editor of The Penguin Book of the Sonnet. Professor Levin’s honors include the Norma Farber First Book Award, an Ingram Merrill grant, a Fulbright Fellowship to Slovenia, The Amy Lowell Poetry Travelling Scholarship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and, most recently, a 2007 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.

Hofstra University’s English Department and Creative Writing Program offers both undergraduate and graduate students a wealth of opportunities for the study of literature and creative writing. In addition to the undergraduate program in creative writing, the Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing program offers a wide range of workshops and independent study options in poetry, long and short fiction, playwriting and the essay form, and the faculty who teach in the Master of Arts are artists who represent the major literary genres.
