Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 5 to 8 p.m.,  Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.
My Left Foot –
Directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Daniel Day-Lewis. Winner of two Academy Awards and nominated for three others. Humorous and poignant, the film is based upon the life of Christy Brownan Irish artist with cerebral palsy. Film discussion to be facilitated by Professor Leandra Reilly.

Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 5 to 8 p.m., Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.
The Dead –
Directed by John Huston and starring Angelica Huston. Film adaptation of James Joyce’s literary masterpiece. A holiday feast turns into an evening of memories and reflection upon the meanings of life and death. Film discussion to be facilitated by Professor Susan Lorsch.

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 5 to 8 p.m., Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.
Man of Aran –
Directed by Robert J. Flaherty. Set on the Aran Islands in the 1930s, the film raises questions of what rural Irish life was really like and how it has changed. Breathtaking cinematography.  Film discussion to be facilitated by Professor Maureen Murphy.

Thursday, February 19, 2009, 5 to 8 p.m., Guthart Cultural Center Theater, 1st floor, Axinn Library, South Campus.
Gearrscannáin (short films) –
We will show four short Irish language films with English subtitles. Among those appearing in the shorts are Brendan Gleeson, Alan Leech, and Cillian Murphy. Part of ongoing effort to promote use of the Irish language. Film discussion to be facilitated by Professor Maureen Murphy.

Thursday, March 19, 2009, 5 to 8 p.m., Mack Student Center Theater, North Campus.
The Wind that Shakes the Barley –
Directed by Ken Loach and starring Cillian Murphy. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. Drama set during the Anglo-Irish War and the ensuing Irish Civil War. The film uses the past to comment on contemporary world affairs. Film discussion to be facilitated by Professor Greg Maney.

Thursday, April 16, 2009, 5 to 8 p.m., Guthart Cultural Center Theater, 1st floor, Axinn Library, South Campus.
Angela’s Ashes –
Directed by Alan Parker and starring Emily Watson. Film adaptation of Frank McCourt’s autobiography. A story about the hardships of poverty and the longing for migration. Film discussion to be facilitated by Professor Margaret Burke.
