Hofstra hosts symposium on medical ethics, religion and end-of-life issues
Two day event co-sponsored by the Islamic Medical Association of North America
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University's Muslim Chaplain's Office and the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) will co-sponsor a two-day symposium, "End of Life Issues: Ethical and Religious Perspectives", examining the intersection of ethics, faith and culture in medical decisions about terminal and life-threatening illnesses on Sept. 17-18, 2010.
The 2010 IMANA-Hofstra Ethics Symposium will address a broad-range of bio-ethical issues, from the role of race and religion in pain management for the terminally ill to Muslim perspectives on organ transplants, brain death and living wills. All the sessions will be held in the Multipurpose Room of the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center. Registration for the conference is free for all Hofstra faculty and students.
Several members of the Hofstra faculty, from the departments of Religion and Anthropology will be among the lecturers, and moderators. For more information about the schedule, or to register, go to http://ethics2010.imana.org.
The Islamic Medical Association of North America or IMANA is the largest Muslim medical organization in North America. IMANA provides a forum and resources for Muslim physicians and other health care professionals in the United States and Canada, and seeks to promote awareness about Islamic medical ethics and values.
