HOFSTRA CULTURAL CENTER ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR FALL 2007 JOSEPH G. ASTMAN INTERNATIONAL CONCERT SERIES

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY ... The theme of Hofstra’s Fall 2007 Joseph G. Astman International Concert Series is "A Musical Passport," and it features a variety of performances of music from around the world.

The International Concert Series was established in 1989 and was appropriately named after the founder of the Hofstra Cultural Center, Dr. Joseph G. Astman. Over the years, audiences have been equally thrilled by world-renowned professionals as well as exciting new young artists ready to burst forth upon the classical scene. This very popular and highly revered series has played various locations on the Hofstra campus and has presented more than 500 professional performers.

Tickets (per concert) are $18, $15 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra student with I.D., and $10 for children under 12. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket upon presentation of a current HofstraCard. Subscriptions are available.

Sunday, October 7, at 2 p.m.
Long Island Premiere of Passage to Armenia. Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.

A concert program of traditional songs and dances of Armenia, featuring The Chookasian Armenian Concert Ensemble. The Chookasian Armenian Concert Ensemble is the only American ensemble awarded the Armenian Gold Medal for Music. The ensemble performs on rarely-heard, authentic instruments used by Armenians for thousands of years.

Stolat! A Celebration of Polish-American Culture featuring The Eddie Forman Orchestra. Main Dining Room, Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus.

In recognition of Polish-American Culture Month, this evening of music and dance will provide the opportunity to listen, dance and be entertained! The Eddie Forman Orchestra, also known as “E.F.O.,” is a western Massachusetts polka band that has been performing for audiences across the United States for 38 years.

World Premiere! Licence to Swing: The Music of James Bond. Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.

Pianist Ted Howe and his quartet, with special guest vocalists, will take you on an exciting jazz excursion into the timeless music of 007. Featuring selections by such composers as John Barry, Lionel Bart and Anthony Newley, you’ll thrill to new adaptations of familiar James Bond themes including "From Russia With Love," "Diamonds are Forever," "You Only Live Twice," and many more. In conjunction with the Hofstra Cultural Center conference, Bond, James Bond: The World of 007, November 6 to 8, 2007.

Yatra - An Indian Dance Journey. Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.

A performance showcasing the voyage of Indian classical and semi-classical dance from ancient times to the present, featuring a company of more than 30 performers from the Mudra Dance Studio and guest tour guide Bob Spiotto.
