Five May 2010 Hofstra Alumni Receive the Albert I. Da Silva Memorial Endowed Scholarship For Graduating with Perfect G.P.A.s

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … Five Hofstra graduates from the Class of 2010 who each earned a 4.0 G.P.A. have been named recipients of Hofstra University’s Albert I. Da Silva Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The late Mr. Da Silva was a noted entertainment lawyer. His wife, Zenia Da Silva, is a professor of Romance Languages and Literature at Hofstra. She has been on the Hofstra faculty for 50 years and is the first professor in the University’s history to have reached that milestone.

Dr. Da Silva, Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz, and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Herman A. Berliner, met with two of the award recipients, Eric H. Hertzman of Wantagh, NY, and Mary M. McElroy of Westbury, NY, on September 29, 2010, and presented them with plaques. Dr. Da Silva took the meeting with the young alums as an opportunity to discuss her and her husband’s shared commitment to education and to talk about his distinguished professional accomplishments.

The other award recipients are Chelsae E. Donley of Middletown, NY; Meghan L. Horan of Port Washington, NY; and Robert A. Marrero of Aliquippa, PA. Provost Berliner noted at the meeting that 2010 marks the first year five Hofstra students graduated with a perfect G.P.A.
