The New York Times Film Critic A.O. Scott To Speak at Hofstra

The Art of Movie Criticism: Print, Web and Television

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – The New York Times Film Critic A.O. Scott will discuss “The Art of Movie Criticism: Print, Web and Television ” at Hofstra University on Thursday, October 29, 2009  at 6 p.m in Rochelle and Irwin A. Lowenfeld Conference and Exhibition Hall, 10th floor,  Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, South Campus.  This event is free and open to the public.

A.O. Scott joined The New York Times as a film critic in January 2000. Previously, Mr. Scott was a Sunday book reviewer for Newsday and a frequent contributor to Slate, The New York Review of Books and many other publications.

He has served on the editorial staffs of Lingua Franca and The New York Review of Books. He also edited, “A Bolt From The Blue and Other Essays,” a collection by Mary McCarthy, which was published by The New York Review of Books in 2002. In addition to his film-reviewing duties, Mr. Scott often writes for The Times Magazine and The Times Book Review.

Born on July 10, 1966 in Northampton, Massachusetts, Mr. Scott graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. degree in literature from Harvard College in 1988. He then went on to do graduate work in English at Johns Hopkins and left before completing his doctorate.
