Hofstra University Mourns the Loss Of Alfred G. Vassalotti, Associate Professor Emeritus of Mathematics
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … The Hofstra Community is saddened by the passing of Associate Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Alfred G. Vassalotti. He served on the full-time faculty at Hofstra from 1961 to 1997 and was a valued colleague in the Math Department.
According to an obituary that ran in The New York Times, Dr. Vassalotti was born in 1929. His parents were immigrants to the United States from Riccia, Italy. He was valedictorian of Queens College, class of 1951 and earned a master’s in mathematics from the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.
Professor Vassalotti will be missed for his deep genuine commitment to teaching. He is survived by his wife, Carmela, his daughter and two sons, and two grandchildren. His family has requested that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Hofstra University or Ozanam Hall of Queens Nursing Home.
