Hofstra University's Provost Office presents the 34th Hofstra Distinguished Faculty Lecture

Professor David Green: "Has Europe Solved the Problem of War?"

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY: The Hofstra University's Provost Office presents the 34th Hofstra Distinguished Faculty Lecture, which will be presented by Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Associate Professor David Green. Professor Green’s lecture is titled “Has Europe Solved the Problem of War?"

The lecture will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at the Guthart Cultural Center Theater, located on the first floor of the Axinn Library, South Campus. For more information call the Provost's Office at (516) 463-5400.

Professor Green’s Distinguished Faculty Lecture will address the question of whether Europe has solved the problem of war. The European integration process, leading to today’s European Union, was launched in the wake of World War II for the purpose of ending centuries of conflict on the continent. The lecture examines whether the so-called ‘long peace’ that has existed in Europe since 1945 is attributable to the integration process, and if so, what can be learned from this experiment in international peacemaking.

David Green joined the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty in 2000. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy and Political Science. Presently, David Green is an Associate Professor in Hofstra’s Political Science Department. His research and teaching interests focus on European, international and American politics. His most recent academic publication is The Europeans: Political Identity In An Emerging Polity, published last year by Lynne Rienner Publishers.
