Hofstra Collegium Presents Fall Concert
Nov. 12: Music By, For and About Women from the Middle Ages Through the 19th Century
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … “Ladies’ Choice: Feminine Contributions to Early Music,” a concert of early music to be performed by the Hofstra Collegium Musicum, will take place Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Mineola, NY.Directed by Dr. William E. Hettrick, professor of music at Hofstra, the Collegium Musicum includes students, faculty members, and members of the community who perform in ensembles of voices and historical instruments. This concert features Tammy Hensrud, soprano; Vaughn Fritts, bass; and Christopher Morongiello, lute and baroque guitar (Ms. Hensrud and Dr. Morongiello are members of the Hofstra faculty).
The program presents music by, for, and about women from the Middle Ages through the 19th century, concluding with Zum Fest der Heiligen Caecilia, a cantata in honor of St. Cecilia by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.
First Presbyterian Church is located at First and Main Streets in Mineola, just east of Mineola Blvd. and two streets north of the LIRR tracks. Tickets are available at the Hofstra Box Office at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, 516-463-6644, and at the door on the evening of the concert. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors over 65 and matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket upon presentation of a current HofstraCard.
