Hofstra Celebrates Midyear Commencement 2010

Sunday, December 19, 2010, at 11 a.m.; Featuring Keynote Speaker CNN Anchor John King

HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY, HEMPSTEAD, NY: Approximately 600 undergraduate, graduate and law students will celebrate Hofstra’s midyear commencement on Sunday, December 19, at 11 a.m. at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex on the North Campus. CNN’s John King, anchor of John King, USA, will be the guest speaker. Hofstra alumnus Robert F. McKeon, chairman and principal owner of Kemark Financial Services Inc.,  will receive an honorary doctoral degree.

About John King

Prior to anchoring John King, USA, King previously anchored State of the Union with John King, CNN's four-hour Sunday news program. He is also CNN's chief national correspondent, responsible for reporting on a range of stories in the United States and around the world. King joined CNN in May 1997 and was appointed chief national correspondent in April 2005. He served as CNN's senior White House correspondent from 1999 to 2005.

King was a key part of CNN's innovative "America Votes 2008" coverage of the presidential campaign. He also contributed to CNN's Emmy-winning 2006 mid-term election coverage as well as to coverage of the 2004 presidential race, the Iraq War, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the tax-cut debates of 2001and 2003 and the war on terrorism. He has conducted one-on-one interviews with an array of senior officials, including President George W. Bush, First Lady Laura Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, former Secretary of State Colin Powell and current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. During the Clinton administration, King conducted an exclusive joint interview with President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Tony Blair in Birmingham, England, in 1998, as well as the only one-on-one interview with the President during his historic trip to Vietnam in November 2000.

Before joining CNN, King wrote for the Associated Press, which he joined in 1985. In 1991 he was named chief political correspondent and headed the AP's political coverage of the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections.

About Robert F. McKeon

Robert F. McKeon co-founded Kemark Financial Services Inc., in the early 1980s. Today it is a recognized leader in the financial services industry.  The company and its subsidiaries under the Pearl River, New York-based operations umbrella have developed an array of commercial insurance products and specialty services for this industry over these many years.

After leaving Hofstra (Class of 1953) and military service with the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. McKeon began a career in the insurance industry with the international brokerage firm of Johnson & Higgins where he served as vice president until 1974.  Prior to organizing Kemark Financial Services Inc. with his friend and business partner, Mark Wei, he was senior vice president at Fred S. James & Company, a large multinational insurance brokerage firm.  Mr. McKeon was also among the recipients of Hofstra University’s 2002 Award for Alumni Achievement.

Commencement Participants:

Midyear Commencement will be held at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex for undergraduates, graduates and the School of Law. Due to the seating capacity of the facility, seating will be limited. Each Midyear Commencement graduate will receive 4 tickets and be able to sign up for extra tickets. You may sign the list when you pick up your academic attire. Based on past history, it is unlikely that there will be any extra tickets.

Directions to the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex

Meadowbrook Parkway to Exit M4 - Route 24 West (Hempstead Turnpike). Heading west on Hempstead Turnpike, pass Nassau Coliseum, and go under the first pedestrian bridge to the first light. Make a right into the main entrance of campus. Go to second stop sign and make a right. The second building on your right-hand side is the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
