Hofstra’s Astronomy Outreach Program Presents Music and Astronomy Under the Stars

2010 schedule includes a star-gazing event at NYC’s Central Park Summerstage

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY-   Hofstra University's Astronomy Outreach Program will bring its telescopes and star-gazing activities to concerts in Long Island and Central Park, and at the Tanglewood Music Festival this summer.

The program, called Music and Astronomy Under the Stars,  will kick off its 2010 schedule with an event at Central Park Summerstage's CareFusion Jazz Festival on Wednesday, June 23 at 7:00 p.m. Coordinated by Astronomy Outreach Program Director Donald Lubowich and funded by a $308,000 NASA grant, the program offers music lovers a chance to observe the sun before concerts, and the moon, planets and stars afterwards. The program also includes a multimedia presentation.

On August 3, the program takes its telescopes to Massachusetts for the Tanglewood Music Festival. The day-long event will be done with the assistance of the Springfield STARS amateur astronomer's club from Springfield, Mass., and the Dudley Observatory in Schenectady, N.Y.

The Amateur Obsevers' Society of New York is also a partner in this program. For more information, and a schedule, go to www.hofstra.edu/underthestars.
