  • Relationship of communication technologies and public space

A scholar of the postwar suburban expansion, Professor Kelly has published widely on the role of the built environment in communicating, reinforcing and imposing social values. Her primary book was on Levittown that argued that the GI Bill, which funded its construction, was instrumental in creating a new middle class.

Dr. Kelly served as a key resource for both News 12's "This Old Town" series and Newsday's book-length study, "Long Island Our Story." She has appeared in the media ? print, radio and television ? in interviews, articles, programs and documentaries examining Long Island, suburbia, and the built environment.
