Why did you pick your major?
I
picked my major because I knew I wanted to learn more about the subject of
Entrepreneurship. I read into the major and saw that there were opportunities
for out-of-the-classroom learning through competitions and conferences which I
knew I wanted to fully engage in.
Why did you pick Hofstra?
I picked Hofstra after attending a tour of
the campus. After walking through academic-side and seeing the scenery I fell
in love with the atmosphere. Plus it helps having New York City an easy
30-minute train ride away. The energy
and opportunity in the Big Apple is hard to pass up as well.
Internships:
I have interned at Likeable Media (an Inc 500
agency in Manhattan), Edsy.com (a live test prep site for students), and where
I am at currently The NPD Group (a leading global market research firm).
Favorite campus activity:
My
favorite campus activity is going to the gym to play basketball with friends to
relax after a long week.
What is your idea of success in 5 years? Or in 20 years?
I want to make a positive difference whether it be on the local, regional, or national level with the work that I do.
Favorite class/professor:
My
favorite class that I have taken so far is the Entrepreneurship Challenge
course taught by Professor Richard Hayes. By starting and working on a small
on-campus venture (DormDelivery) I got to learn the process of constructing a
business plan, pitching to Capital One investors, finding a team and running a
business – and again, had the opportunity for out-of-the-classroom learning.
What have you found as your "Purpose"?
My purpose currently is to
make a positive impact in people’s lives...
Favorite thing about NY/Long
Island:
My favorite thing about New York City is the energy. It is hard to
beat a city that never stops moving. My favorite thing about Long Island is the
pizza places (which are all good) and close proximity to the beach.
Favorite campus eatery:
My favorite place for breakfast is Omelet Pan, for lunch is Au Bon Pain, and for dinner is California Pizza Kitchen.
Favorite campus spot:
My favorite campus spot would probably have to be the basketball courts in the gym. Best place for me to clear my head, relax, and have some fun!
What surprised you about
Hofstra?
A couple of things that surprised me about Hofstra were the ability to make great friends so quick, and also see new faces everyday (due to the size of the campus). The other was the accessibility of the faculty. It seems like whenever you have a questions, or idea, and take the time to approach a faculty member they will always try and make time to hear you out.
What is your idea of
success in 5 years? Or in 20 years?
My idea of success in 5 years I believe is pretty attainable, which is to be to be working in a marketing or technology-related field while living in Manhattan. This could be working full-time in an office while working on my entrepreneurship projects on the side, or if one of my projects blossoms into a full-time venture that is where I would focus my energy.
My ideal situation in 20 years would be to become an angel investor and invest in companies that I believe will truly make an impact in people’s lives and make the world a better place. Whether it is 5 years, or 20 years, I want to make a positive difference whether it be on the local, regional, or national level with the work that I do. That is what is ultimately fulfilling.
Best Hofstra memory:
One of my favorite Hofstra memories so far would have to be this past semester when a few friends and myself took a spontaneous trip to Long Beach on a weekend in September. We woke up early in the morning grabbed coffee and hopped in my car to spend the day relaxing, checking out local small businesses, and playing football on the beach.
Favorite (short) Hofstra story:
Favorite short Hofstra story would have to be
the tales of the how the Hofstra cats came to be, and stay, on the Hofstra
campus.
What do you take the most
“Pride” in?
I take the most Pride in trying to make our campus a better place
through my work with clubs, in the residence halls, and our community with
philanthropic events.
What have you found as your
“Purpose?”
My purpose currently is to
make a positive impact in people’s lives, and because business reaches a large
amount of people I believe it is a perfect environment for me to exercise my
purpose.
