How long have you been at Hofstra?
I am proud to say it will be six years this August.
Major accomplishments or contributions to the Hofstra Community:
Faculty Advisor - African Caribbean Society (ACS)
Faculty Advisor - Black Student Union (BSU)
I was named Club Faculty Advisor of the Year by OSLA in 2010
Interesting hobbies?
I enjoy writing short stories.
Why did you go into your field?
I initially found college very confusing in my Freshman semester. I think the reason I choose this career because I enjoy assisting students with navigating the twists & turns that higher education offers.
Favorite campus activity:
Going to sporting events with my family.
Why?
I love going to HU sporting events because it is one of the times that our wonderful community feels and acts like a family. We are all cheering for the same team…HOFSTRA!
Favorite Activity with the student body?
I really love serving students at Midnight Breakfast!
Why?
It is usually my last opportunity to see my students before they take their finals and it is just a nice way to show them my support.
Favorite thing about NY/Long Island region
I think living on Long Island is truly the best of both worlds. You have the wonderful parks and beaches of the suburbs. However, the sights, sounds and wonderful vibes of NYC is less than an hour away!
What have you found as your "Purpose" here on campus?
I have found my purpose on campus to be making sure that ALL of our students have a voice.
Favorite campus eatery:
U Pick Salad in Bits & Bytes (they have so much to choose from)
Favorite campus spot:
The 10th floor of the Library (the view is simply amazing!)
What general advice or information about your department/services would you give students?
Advisement Deans can help students with more than just picking classes. Any issue a student might have an Advisement Dean can point them in the right direction.
What general advice about college life would you give students?
Students should enjoy college. It is an exciting time of self-discovery and changing into an adult. However, I just caution that it is best enjoyed if everything is done in moderation. College life should not be ALL partying or ALL studying, but a happy medium between the two.
Best Hofstra memory:
Watching one of my favorite students, who had struggled to graduate for 6 years, finally walk across the stage during the May 2011 commencement. When he saw me at the other end of the stage, he made a bee line to me and whispered in my ear, ‘You have changed not only my life, but my the lives of my children and generations to come. Thank you!’
Favorite (short) Hofstra story:
I remember driving Senator Obama’s top Advisors to the Mack Arena the day before the 2008 debate. It was so much fun because they completely forgot I was in the van and they spoke so openly about their opponent and possible debate tactics.
What do you take the most “Pride” in?
In my email signature you will see ‘Proud to be a part of the Pride’. That is very true. The Hofstra community is unlike any other. The students, faculty and administrators really look out for one another. We understand that when one succeeds…we all succeed.
What have you found as your “Purpose” here on campus?
I have found my purpose on campus to be making sure that ALL of our students have a voice. It is imperative to me that all Hofstra Students , especially our Students of Color, be empowered with the knowledge that their opinion does count and we as administrators do care about what they have to say.
