How long have you been at Hofstra?
I started at Hofstra in November of 1994 as a clerk secretary.

Department/Title?
I am a call center employee with Student Financial Services, and love what I do.

Major contributions to Hofstra community:
I love working with incoming students and their families to make the transition to Hofstra and college life as smooth as possible.

Interesting hobbies?
In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking and watching movies.  I also love spending time with my family.

Why did you go into your field?
After high school I became a secretary.  I worked in Manhattan for several years before beginning my family.  After my children had grown I wanted to get back into the work force and knew Hofstra was a great place to work.

What have you found as your “Purpose” here on campus?
To care for everyone who ends up on the other end of a phone call I am taking.

Favorite campus activity:
I used to assist with athletics games.  Seeing the Hofstra community at events like that was a lot of fun and let me experience a side of the university that was different from what I experienced every day at my position.

Favorite activity with the student body?
I always like to see orientation weekends.  Seeing the students actually coming to campus and learning the layout is an exciting time.  I enjoy walking around and am happy to play “unofficial tour guide” to any family lost or with questions.

Favorite thing about NY/Long Island region
I think our location is a great resource to the students.  Our proximity to public transportation to Manhattan is important, but also being able to access all that Long Island has to offer as well.

Favorite campus eatery:
Bits and Bytes!

Favorite campus spot: 
Outside Barnard Hall, in the spring or summer.  That space is just beautiful.

What general advice or information about your department/services would you give students?
You have to communicate with your family and institution what financial aid is best for you.  Thinking about the four year trajectory of payments is important; you need to pick the best plan for YOU.

What general advice about college life would you give students?
Enjoy it!  You have a responsibility in your education to study hard, but college life has so many aspects to it, students should strive to enjoy all of them.

Best Hofstra memory:
I always love receiving calls from a student who has just found out they were offered a scholarship.  Their excitement and eagerness are always welcomed aspects of my job.

Favorite (short) Hofstra story:
Seeing any student thrive here at Hofstra.  Working with them before they are officially students and getting to see them at the university is a great privilege.

What do you take the most “Pride” in here on campus:
I work for a GREAT organization.  Here at Hofstra, the university values all the employees and really cares about us.  Attending graduation and seeing our student move out into the world is also a great moment of pride for me.

What have you found as your “Purpose” here on campus:
To care for everyone who ends up on the other end of a phone call I am taking.  To understand their needs and assist them assuring them that at Hofstra they can succeed.
