Hofstra Italian Experience Festival Celebrates 20 Years
Featuring Italian Food, Live Entertainment, Children’s Activities
Outdoors, Rain or Shine, South Campus; Sunday, September 23, 2012, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY ... Celebrate Italy’s cultural and culinary influence on America at one of the largest and most beautiful outdoor festivals on Long Island when Hofstra University hosts the 20th Annual Italian Experience on Sunday, September 23, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will take place outdoors, rain or shine, on the South Campus.
The Italian Experience Festival has grown to be a popular Long Island tradition, featuring a full itinerary of crafts, live entertainment, children’s activities and food.
Entertainment includes award-winning recording artist Filippo Voltaggio; traditional music and dance by Coro d’Italia; the Long Island Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra; The San Remo Duo; performance by members of The Bronx Opera Company; Katie’s Puppets; The Magic of Gary the Great; and a Poets and Writers Piazza. (Please note: the entertainment schedule is subject to change.)
Admission to the festival is $6 per person; $4 for seniors (over 65 with ID). Children under 12 are admitted free. Free admission for Hofstra students, staff and faculty upon presentation of a current HofstraCard. About Coro d’ Italia: New to Hofstra’s Italian Experience festival, Coro d’ Italia will perform traditional music and dance in folkloric costume. Hear the songs your great grandparents sang, see charming dances from the old country as well as operatic classics and Italian American favorites. Coro d'Italia is acknowledged as America's first group dedicated solely to Italian material. Founded in New York City in 1932, the Coro is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year!
About Filippo Voltaggio: Filippo Voltaggio has performed all over the world, singing and winning accolades from The New York Times to the Los Angeles Daily News, and awards in prestigious competitions and two celebrated CDs. In addition to his success on the stage, he has two celebrated CDs to his credit and has appeared in television, film and even on radio, with his syndicated programs, Filippo and the Chef and LIFEChanges With Filippo.
