Hofstra Dutch Festival Turns 30!
Annual Outdoor Celebration to Include New Traditions
HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY, HEMPSTEAD, NY ... One of Long Island’s favorite annual events, the Hofstra Dutch Festival, is celebrating its 30th anniversary on Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the South Campus. To celebrate this milestone, Hofstra is launching what will be a new tradition of honoring other cultures in the community and on Hofstra’s global campus. This year that cultural spotlight will focus on India and Portugal, in addition to the Netherlands.
Performances include –
Noon: Ranchos Juventude e Sonhos de Portugal, a dance ensemble representing Portugal. Introductions will be made by the Mineola Portugese Center and the Portugese Heritage Society.
2 p.m.: Dutch-born singer and entertainer Frans Bloem returns to the Hofstra stage. With musical direction by Sterling Price-McKinney.
3:30 p.m.: Nartanrang Dance Academy of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Institute of Indian Culture) and The India Association of Long Island (IALI).
There will be many other live performances, children’s activities, food, the annual plant sale and dozens of vendors.
Admission to the Festival is $7 general public, $5 senior citizen and free for children under 12. Members of the Hofstra community may be admitted free upon presentation of a current HofstraCard.
