Hofstra’s Nationally Ranked Cheerleading and Dance Teams Give Final Performances Before National Championships
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Cheerleading Squad and Hofstra Dance Team will perform their final exhibition on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex . This will be the final performance in front of the Hofstra crowd before both teams travel to Orlando, FL to compete in the Universal Dance Association/Universal Cheer Association National Competition.
“This exhibition is truly important to the Cheer and Dance teams especially because it's the one and only chance to show Hofstra what our teams will be brining to Nationals,” said Cheerleading Coach Christine Nowierski. “Because of safety and athletic rules and regulations both teams are not given the opportunity to perform certain stunts and routines at sporting events, so this exhibition is a chance for the Hofstra community to witness the power in performance both these teams will be bringing to Nationals.”
This final exhibition before competition will be a chance for both teams to perfect their routines and feel the spirit from the Hofstra crowd before the final challenge at nationals. Both the dance team and cheerleading squad are nationally ranked and champions on many levels. The cheerleading squad has been UCA’s Small Co-Ed National Champion in 2006 and 2007 and also won the title in 2003.
The dance team has been nationally ranked for the past 14 years and has been in the top five in their categories for 10 of those years. They were the 2006 National Hip Hop Champions and are ranked #1 among colleges on Long Island.
