HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC ANNOUNCES SPRING 2008 CONCERT SCHEDULE

Unless otherwise noted (*), call the Hofstra Box Office at (516) 463-6644 for tickets. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

February 1, 2 and 3: Hofstra Opera Theater presents Kirke Mechem’s Tartuffe,
a comic opera based on Molière's play. Patricia Heuermann, artistic director, David Ramael, musical director. Performances are February 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. and February 3 at 3 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard.

March 2: William Lawrence Scholarship Recital, featuring Hofstra student recitalists Cara Beller, soprano; Nataliya Blidy, piano; David Bridges, clarinet; and Helena Koch, contralto. Performance is 3 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Admission is free.

March 8 and 15: "That Is The Question," the Shakespeare Festival Musicale performed by the Hofstra Collegium Musicum. William E. Hettrick, director. Performed as part of the 59th annual Hofstra Shakespeare Festival, featuring Hamlet. Performances are Saturday, March 8 and March 15, at 2 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. Tickets are $10, $8 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale February 5.

March 9: Dorothy B. Hoag Scholarship Recital, featuring Hofstra students Elizabeth Del Vecchio, flute; Danielle Horta, soprano; Michelle Emeric, soprano; and Matthew Koraus, bass and harpsichord. Performance is 3 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Admission is free.

April 13: The American Chamber Ensemble, Blanche Abram and Naomi Drucker, co-directors. Performers include Blanche Abram, piano; Naomi Drucker, clarinet; Marilyn Lehman, piano; Denise Lozano, flute; Eriko Sato, violin; and Chris Finckel, violoncello. The title of this performance is "Milhaud and Hindemith in America," featuring important chamber works by both composers. Performance is 3 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale beginning March 25.

April 13: Hofstra Jazz Ensemble. David Lalama, director. Performance is 7 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Tickets are $10, $8 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale beginning March 25.

April 19: Rhoda Pinsley Levin Award Recital, featuring Hofstra student Jennifer Wells, piano. Performance is 2 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Admission is free.

* April 25: Hofstra Chorale and Chamber Singers. David Fryling, director. Featuring a program of accompanied and unaccompanied works for choir from several historical periods. Performance is 8 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, located on Cathedral Avenue in Garden City, NY. Tickets are available only through the Cathedral of the Incarnation Office by calling (516) 746-2955. Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

April 27: Hofstra String Quartet with Alexander Sharpe, violin; Matthew Lehmann, violin; Todd Low, viola; and Benjamin Wolff, violoncello. This concert will feature a program of 20th-century string quartets, featuring Henry Cowell’s no. 5, Michael Tippet's no. 1, and Charles Ives' no. 1.  Performance is 3 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale beginning April 8.

May 3: Hofstra Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Peter Loel Boonshaft, director. Featuring a program of traditional and contemporary works for band. Performance is 8 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. Tickets are $10, $8 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets go on sale April 15.

May 4: William Rosencrans Scholarship Recital, featuring Hofstra student Devon Huhn, soprano. Performance is 3 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Admission is free.

May 4: Hofstra Opera Theater. Patricia Heuermann, artistic director, and David Ramael, musical director. Presenting scenes selected from the repertoire of opera and musical theater. Performance is 8 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Tickets are $10, $8 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale beginning April 15.

May 6: Hofstra Chorus and String Ensemble. Cindy L. Bell and David Ramael, directors. Performance is 8 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus. Tickets are $10, $8 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale beginning April 22.

May 10: Hofstra Symphony Orchestra. David Ramael, director. Featuring a program that includes Georges Bizet’s "L'Arlesienne" suites nos. 1 and 2, and the Concerto for Harpsichord and Orchestra in E-flat by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, with Hofstra student Matthew Koraus, harpsichord, winner of the 2007 Concerto Competition. Performance is 8 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. Tickets are $10, $8 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. Tickets on sale beginning April 22.
