First African American Speechwriter in the White House to speak at Hofstra
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University’s School of Communication and the Department of Speech Communication, Rhetoric & Performance Studies welcome Terry Edmonds, the first African American speechwriter to work in the White House.
Mr. Edmonds will be talking to students and faculty about his career and the importance of engaging in the political process on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 7 p.m. on the tenth floor of the Joan and David E. Axinn Library.
In 2005, Mr. Edmonds participated in Hofstra's 11th Presidential Conference, William Jefferson Clinton: the New Democrat from Hope.
Mr. Edmonds is currently the Executive Speech Writer at Time Warner Inc. Prior to working in corporate America; he served as Director of Editorial Management for AARP, the nation’s largest advocacy and membership organization devoted to improving the lives of older Americans.
Prior to joining AARP, Mr. Edmonds served as Assistant to the President and Director of Speechwriting during the final term of President William Jefferson Clinton. In that capacity he was responsible for the production of all of the President’s domestic policy speeches on such issues as education, transportation, race relations, welfare reform, health care reform, the State of the Union and the federal budget.
