Education Professor Roberto Joseph Published Work in Trade Journal, Educational Technology
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Assistant Professor Roberto Joseph, Ph.D. was the lead editor for the November-December 2009 issue of Educational Technology, co-authored the issue’s introduction and wrote an article for it titled, “Closing the Achievement Gap with Culturally Relevant Technology-Based Learning Environments.”
“The most significant educational problem of our time has been the achievement gap,” said Dr. Joseph, who is a professor of Curriculum and Teaching.“I discuss the need for the field of educational technology to join in the social movement to close this gap.The article provides background on the significance of incorporating culture throughout the design and development of technology-based learning environments.” Dr. Joseph’s work provides guidance to instructional designers on how to begin to incorporate culture throughout the instructional systems design process.
Dr. Joseph also serves as the Director for Project Promise – Teacher Opportunity Corps (TOC), a program funded by the New York State Education Department, Office of K-16 Initiatives and Access Programs. The program is designed to enhance the preparation of teachers to address the learning needs of at-risk students; and to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged individuals in teaching careers.
